Finance tutoring for Babson students.

FIN2000 Principles of Finance at Babson covers stock and bond valuation, capital budgeting, risk and return, and the cost of capital, and it builds on accounting and quantitative methods. It moves fast, and each topic leans on the one before.

Where students get stuck.

A fast four-credit course

With valuation, capital budgeting, risk, and cost of capital in one course, a missed idea early compounds. We find the earliest one that did not land and fix it.

Quantitative methods underneath

FIN2000 assumes accounting and quantitative methods. If algebra or statistics is shaky, finance setups go wrong, so we patch those first.

Valuation word problems

Bond and stock questions hide the unknown in a paragraph. We practice the timeline, the rate, and the payment period before any math.

How a session works

Diagnosis first. Then the fix.

  1. 01

    Before we meet

Send me what you're stuck on: a problem set, slides, your last midterm, a practice exam, last week's quiz.

  2. 02

    On Zoom

You walk me through a problem out loud. It usually takes a few minutes to hear where the reasoning goes sideways. We fix that piece and rebuild from there, so you know why each step works.

  3. 03

    Before we finish

The real test: a fresh problem with new numbers and different wording, the way a midterm would ask it, and you solve it yourself. I don't complete assignments or hand over answers. You leave able to do the work.

Questions

Before you book.

Is FIN2000 required for every Babson student?

I could not confirm from the catalog entry whether it is core for all majors, so check your degree requirements.

I understood the lecture but missed points on the midterm. What do we do?

We start with your first exam and tag each miss: a concept, a setup, a wording trap, or arithmetic. Most of the recovery is usually in the setup and the wording.

Which calculator can I use?

I could not find a published policy, so check your syllabus. We practice on the one your exams allow.

Is tutoring allowed under my school's honor code?

Tutoring on concepts and practice problems is generally fine, but policies on graded work vary by course. I don't complete graded assignments. Check your syllabus's collaboration policy, and if you're unsure, ask your professor.
