Connecticut's personal finance requirement
A half-credit personal financial management course, required to graduate from public high school beginning with the class of 2027. Each district writes its own version.
Starting with the class of 2027, Connecticut public high school students need a half-credit personal finance course to graduate. Many families here also want more than the required course, especially students who've grown up around finance and plan to study it.

Independent schools aren't bound by the state law and teach their own finance and economics courses. We work from whichever one your student takes.
Students headed for top business programs can start the real thing now: time value of money, valuation, and how companies decide what to invest in. It's the same material I teach MBA students.
Students home from college often bring their hardest class with them. Winter break and summer are the best time to fix corporate finance before the next exam, and I teach it at the level their course expects.
Students who hear about markets at home often know the vocabulary and still miss the calculation. We connect the two.
The state sets the topics and each district builds the course. We use your student's actual materials.
Discounted cash flow is where strong students first hit a wall. We build it one step at a time until they can do it cold.
Parents usually book, and your student joins on Zoom from Greenwich, Darien, New Canaan, or boarding school. Send me the course, the school, and what's giving your student trouble, and I'll tell you honestly whether I can help.
Send me what you're stuck on: a problem set, slides, your last midterm, a practice exam, last week's quiz.
You walk me through a problem out loud. It usually takes a few minutes to hear where the reasoning goes sideways. We fix that piece and rebuild from there, so you know why each step works.
The real test: a fresh problem with new numbers and different wording, the way a midterm would ask it, and you solve it yourself. I don't complete assignments or hand over answers. You leave able to do the work.

I’m Chi Odogwu. I have a B.S. in Business with a finance specialization from Liberty University, earned summa cum laude in three years, and a Master’s in International Economics and Finance from Brandeis. I tutored IB students in grad school, did valuation and private equity consulting at PwC, taught MBA finance at Florida State, and spent three years as an adjunct professor teaching Business Finance.
Often more so. Students with a head start usually want depth, and we can go well past the required course into corporate finance and valuation.
The law covers public high schools. Private schools set their own courses, and I can help with those too.
No. I work from the teacher's materials and never complete graded work, so sessions support the class instead of replacing it.
Tutoring on concepts and practice problems is generally fine, but policies on graded work vary by course. I don't complete graded assignments. Check your syllabus's collaboration policy, and if you're unsure, ask your professor.
Tell me your course and what isn’t clicking. I’ll tell you honestly whether I can help.
