MBA Finance

MBA core finance, at MBA speed.

MBA finance moves fast. The core course often covers in a few weeks what an undergrad class covers in a semester, and it assumes you remember the math. I taught MBA finance at Florida State and did valuation work at PwC, so we can go from the formula to the case discussion in one session.

MBA Finance

Where students get stuck.

Coming from a non-finance background

Classmates from banking make it look easy. If you came from marketing, engineering, or the military, a few focused sessions close that gap quickly.

Cases with no single answer

Case questions reward a clear valuation argument. We work on how to set one up and defend your assumptions in class.

The pace

Miss one week in a half-semester core and you're behind. Sessions can target exactly what you missed without redoing everything.

How a session works

Diagnosis first. Then the fix.

  1. 01

    Before we meet

Send me what you're stuck on: a problem set, slides, your last midterm, a practice exam, last week's quiz.

  2. 02

    On Zoom

You walk me through a problem out loud. It usually takes a few minutes to hear where the reasoning goes sideways. We fix that piece and rebuild from there, so you know why each step works.

  3. 03

    Before we finish

The real test: a fresh problem with new numbers and different wording, the way a midterm would ask it, and you solve it yourself. I don't complete assignments or hand over answers. You leave able to do the work.

Questions

Before you book.

Can you help me prepare before the MBA starts?

Yes. A few sessions on time value of money, discounting, and financial statements before orientation makes the core much easier.

Can you help me prepare for a finance waiver exam?

Yes. We review the tested material and work practice problems until you're confident.

Is tutoring allowed under my school's honor code?

Tutoring on concepts and practice problems is generally fine, but policies on graded work vary by course. I don't complete graded assignments. Check your syllabus's collaboration policy, and if you're unsure, ask your professor.
