IGCSE and A-Level · Business

IGCSE and A-Level Business, numbers and arguments.

Business papers ask for two things. Get the numbers right, then argue a case from the information you're given. Students tend to be strong at one and shaky at the other. I hold a master's degree in international economics and finance and have taught business finance at university level. We work from your student's class notes and exam board.

Where students get stuck.

The finance calculations

Break-even, margins, ratios and cash flow forecasts all show up in this course. Students who skip the setup lose marks they had earned. We write the working out line by line until it becomes habit.

Case study answers

A strong answer uses the facts in the case, argues both sides, and then picks one. We build that structure on past questions, one answer at a time.

Your exam board

Cambridge and Edexcel phrase their questions differently. Tell me which board your student sits and when, and we practice on that board's papers.

For parents

Send me your student's year, exam board and exam dates. Sessions run on Zoom at a time that suits your time zone, and we use your student's own notes.

How a session works

Diagnosis first. Then the fix.

  1. 01

    Before we meet

Send me what you're stuck on: a problem set, slides, your last midterm, a practice exam, last week's quiz.

  2. 02

    On Zoom

You walk me through a problem out loud. It usually takes a few minutes to hear where the reasoning goes sideways. We fix that piece and rebuild from there, so you know why each step works.

  3. 03

    Before we finish

The real test: a fresh problem with new numbers and different wording, the way a midterm would ask it, and you solve it yourself. I don't complete assignments or hand over answers. You leave able to do the work.

Questions

Before you book.

Do you tutor both IGCSE and A-Level?

Yes. The finance and case study skills carry across both, and sessions follow whichever course your student is taking.

Which exam boards do you cover?

Tell me the board when you book. I work from your student's syllabus and past papers.

Will you write my student's coursework?

No. I explain the ideas and give feedback on your student's own reasoning. Assessed work has to be theirs.

Is tutoring allowed under my school's honor code?

Tutoring on concepts and practice problems is generally fine, but policies on graded work vary by course. I don't complete graded assignments. Check your syllabus's collaboration policy, and if you're unsure, ask your professor.
