AP · Microeconomics and Macroeconomics

AP Economics, graph by graph.

AP Micro and AP Macro are graph exams. You draw the model, label it correctly, and say what moved and why. Students often get the idea in class and still drop points on the free-response questions. I hold a master's degree in international economics and finance. We work from your student's class and the released exam questions.

Where students get stuck.

Labeling the graph

Graders look for labeled axes, curves and equilibrium points. We drill the standard models until your student labels them without thinking.

Free-response answers

A short answer needs the change, the direction and the reason. We practice that pattern on released questions.

Mixing up models

Curves that look alike get confused across units. We build a simple map of which model answers which kind of question.

For parents

Tell me which AP course your student is taking, the unit they're on, and the exam date. Sessions run on Zoom at a time that suits your time zone, and we use your student's own notes.

How a session works

Diagnosis first. Then the fix.

  1. 01

    Before we meet

Send me what you're stuck on: a problem set, slides, your last midterm, a practice exam, last week's quiz.

  2. 02

    On Zoom

You walk me through a problem out loud. It usually takes a few minutes to hear where the reasoning goes sideways. We fix that piece and rebuild from there, so you know why each step works.

  3. 03

    Before we finish

The real test: a fresh problem with new numbers and different wording, the way a midterm would ask it, and you solve it yourself. I don't complete assignments or hand over answers. You leave able to do the work.

Questions

Before you book.

Do you tutor both Micro and Macro?

Yes. They are separate exams, so sessions follow whichever course your student is taking.

Do you use practice questions?

Yes, mainly released free-response questions along with your student's own class materials.

Will you complete my student's graded work?

No. I explain the ideas and give feedback on your student's own reasoning. Graded work has to be theirs.

Is tutoring allowed under my school's honor code?

Tutoring on concepts and practice problems is generally fine, but policies on graded work vary by course. I don't complete graded assignments. Check your syllabus's collaboration policy, and if you're unsure, ask your professor.
