Finance Principles

BUSI 320 tutoring for Liberty students.

BUSI 320 Finance Principles is the course that decides whether finance feels manageable at Liberty. I took it, earned an A, and later spent three years tutoring Liberty students through it, so I know where the points go and why the first few weeks matter so much.

The course

BUSI 320 · Finance Principles

Three credit hours, offered residential and online. The catalog describes the corporate structure, with corporate stocks, earnings, dividends, reorganization and failure, and practical application of budgeting and corporation projections.

Before you take it

Prerequisites

ACCT 211 and ACCT 212. The accounting comes first because every finance question starts from statements you already know how to read.

After it

What it opens

BUSI 420 Investments requires BUSI 320, and so does BUSI 460 Advanced Financial Management. Whatever finance you take next at Liberty builds on this course.

Warm up with the calculations behind BUSI 320

Valuing a stock and working through a projection both lean on discounting. These free guides cover that math, and the midterm guide shows what a first exam in a finance course asks for.

Where students get stuck.

Accounting turns into finance

ACCT 211 and 212 taught you to record what happened. BUSI 320 asks what should happen next. Most students lose points on that switch, so we practice taking a set of statements and asking the forward-looking question.

Budgets and projections

A projection is a chain of assumptions, and one early mistake runs through the whole thing. We build projections together and check each link, so you see how an error spreads before an exam punishes it.

Studying online alone

A lot of Liberty finance students are working adults taking BUSI 320 online. When a problem stops making sense at 10 p.m., there's nobody to ask. That's the gap a one-on-one session fills.

I took this course

I finished my finance degree at Liberty summa cum laude, and I earned an A in BUSI 320. After that I tutored Liberty students in corporate finance for three years. I won't tell you what your professor will test, but I can show you how the course is built and what a strong answer looks like.

How a session works

Diagnosis first. Then the fix.

  1. 01

    Before we meet

Send me what you're stuck on: a problem set, slides, your last midterm, a practice exam, last week's quiz.

  2. 02

    On Zoom

You walk me through a problem out loud. It usually takes a few minutes to hear where the reasoning goes sideways. We fix that piece and rebuild from there, so you know why each step works.

  3. 03

    Before we finish

The real test: a fresh problem with new numbers and different wording, the way a midterm would ask it, and you solve it yourself. I don't complete assignments or hand over answers. You leave able to do the work.

Questions

Before you book.

Have you taken BUSI 320 yourself?

Yes. I earned my finance degree at Liberty and took the course, earning an A. Later I tutored Liberty students in corporate finance for three years.

Is BUSI 320 offered online?

The catalog says it is offered both residentially and online. Sessions with me are on Zoom either way.

Do you know my professor's tests?

I don't name or predict professors, and I don't complete graded work. I help you understand the material, using your syllabus and graded assignments.

Is tutoring allowed under my school's honor code?

Tutoring on concepts and practice problems is generally fine, but policies on graded work vary by course. I don't complete graded assignments. Check your syllabus's collaboration policy, and if you're unsure, ask your professor.
