Personal finance games and simulations for teens

Games let you make a costly mistake for free. These ones put you in front of rent, credit cards, car loans, taxes and investing so the first time you face them is not with real money.

Three first steps

  1. Play a budgeting or credit game first, since those decisions come earliest.
  2. After each game, write down one choice you would change and why.
  3. Try a stock simulation only after you understand risk and diversification.

Questions

Quick answers.

Do games teach real skills?

They teach tradeoffs and consequences well. They simplify details, so pair them with a lesson or calculator.

Do I need to give my real information?

No real financial account details should ever be needed. If a game asks for sensitive information, leave.
