Budgeting and banking lessons for high school students

Budgeting is deciding what your money is for before it is spent. These resources teach it with real situations: choosing an account, comparing a phone plan and tracking spending.

Three first steps

  1. Write down one month of your actual spending, even if it is small.
  2. Sort it into needs, wants and saving.
  3. Compare two bank accounts by fees and minimum balances.

Questions

Quick answers.

What is a budget?

A plan that matches money coming in with money going out, so you decide in advance instead of wondering where it went.

Is a checking account the same as savings?

No. Checking is for everyday spending and savings is for money you are setting aside, often paying more interest.

When a free resource is not enough

Help from a tutor who explains it clearly.

I tutor personal finance and AP Business with Personal Finance one-on-one on Zoom, for students and with parents in the loop. Bring the assignment or the practice test you missed, and we work from that.
