Personal Financial Literacy
Earning, saving, credit, borrowing, investing and insurance. We work from the course your student is actually taking.
From the 2026 to 2027 freshman class on, Texas public high school students need a half-credit personal financial literacy course to graduate, in Eanes ISD and Austin ISD alike. I tutor that course, AP Business and college finance, one-on-one over Zoom.

A car, a summer abroad, a first apartment. Saving toward a real goal is where interest and planning stop being abstract.
College Board's newest AP course, with the first exam in May 2027. I tutor the subject whether or not your student's school offers the course yet.
Students home from UT McCombs or anywhere else often bring their hardest class with them. Break is the best time to fix it.
What a student studies in finance depends on the school and the state. Checked October 29, 2026.
Under HB 27, public high school students who enter ninth grade in 2026 to 2027 or later need a half-credit personal financial literacy course to graduate. Private schools set their own requirements.
A few of the high schools families in the area attend, named for context only. Online Finance Tutor isn't affiliated with any of them. Your assigned school depends on your address and district.
A student wants $6,000 for a car in two years. Saving $250 a month with no interest gets there exactly. In an account paying 4% a year, compounded monthly, $240.55 a month is enough, because interest covers the rest. Small difference, big lesson about letting money work.
Most finance problems start from the answer: how much do I need, by when? Working backward from a goal is a skill students rarely practice.
One is what a loan charges, the other is what savings earn, and the difference is compounding. Mixing them up costs points and later, money.
Index funds, fees and diversification. We cut through what students see online and get to the math.
Parents usually book. Your student joins on Zoom after school or on a weekend. We're on Central time. Send me the course, the school and what's giving your student trouble, and I'll tell you honestly whether I can help.
Send me what you're stuck on: a problem set, slides, your last midterm, a practice exam, last week's quiz.
You walk me through a problem out loud. It usually takes a few minutes to hear where the reasoning goes sideways. We fix that piece and rebuild from there, so you know why each step works.
The real test: a fresh problem with new numbers and different wording, the way a midterm would ask it, and you solve it yourself. I don't complete assignments or hand over answers. You leave able to do the work.

No. Every session is on Zoom, so there's no travel and scheduling fits around activities. I schedule in Central time for Texas families.
HB 27 covers public high schools. Private schools set their own courses, and I can help with those too.
Ask the school. The course is brand new for 2026 to 2027 and each school decides whether to offer it. I tutor the subject either way, including students studying for the exam on their own.
No. I work from the teacher's materials and never complete graded work, so sessions support the class instead of replacing it.
Tutoring on concepts and practice problems is generally fine, but policies on graded work vary by course. I don't complete graded assignments. Check your syllabus's collaboration policy, and if you're unsure, ask your professor.
Tell me your course and what isn’t clicking. I’ll tell you honestly whether I can help.
