Economics and Personal Finance
One course covers supply and demand along with budgeting, credit, loans and credit scores. Students who find the two halves hard to connect get them worked through together, one-on-one.
North Carolina public high school students who started ninth grade in 2020 to 2021 or later must pass a full-credit Economics and Personal Finance course to graduate, and that includes Charlotte-Mecklenburg students. I tutor that course, AP Business with Personal Finance and college finance, one-on-one over Zoom.

APR, minimum payments, utilization and what a missed payment does to a score. The math is short, and getting it right early pays off for years.
College Board's newest AP course, with the first exam in May 2027. I tutor the subject whether or not your student's school offers the course yet.
Students home from UNC Charlotte, Appalachian State or anywhere else often bring their hardest class with them. Break is the best time to fix it before the next exam.
What a student studies in finance depends on the school and the state. Checked November 5, 2026.
The state's graduation requirements list Economics and Personal Finance as one of four required social studies credits for students who entered ninth grade in 2020 to 2021 or later. There is no required grade, though the Department of Public Instruction strongly recommends taking it later in high school.
A few of the public high schools that serve the area, named for context only. Online Finance Tutor isn't affiliated with any of them, and your assigned school depends on your address, so check with the district.
A card charges 24% APR, which is 2% a month. On a $1,000 balance that's $20 of interest in the first month. Pay only $25 and just $5 reduces the balance, so most of the payment is going to interest. Seeing that on paper is usually what makes the minimum-payment trap click.
Simple interest is one line of math. Compound interest, credit card APR and loan payments stack the same idea, and that stacking is where grades usually slip.
Gross pay, net pay, withholding and a W-4 look nothing like math class. Once a student has worked through one real pay stub, the unit gets much easier.
Opportunity cost, inflation and marginal thinking sound abstract until they're tied to a real choice. We use examples from a student's own life.
Parents usually book. Your student joins on Zoom from home after school or on a weekend, with no drive on I-77 at rush hour. Send me the course name, the school and what's giving your student trouble, and I'll tell you honestly whether I can help.
Send me what you're stuck on: a problem set, slides, your last midterm, a practice exam, last week's quiz.
You walk me through a problem out loud. It usually takes a few minutes to hear where the reasoning goes sideways. We fix that piece and rebuild from there, so you know why each step works.
The real test: a fresh problem with new numbers and different wording, the way a midterm would ask it, and you solve it yourself. I don't complete assignments or hand over answers. You leave able to do the work.

No. Every session is on Zoom, so there's no travel and scheduling fits around practice, work and activities. We're on the same Eastern time zone.
The state sets no required grade and recommends taking it later in high school. Your school's counselor can tell you when your student is scheduled.
The rule we cite covers students who entered ninth grade in 2020 to 2021 or later. A student who entered earlier followed the requirements in place at that time.
Yes. Budgeting, credit and loans make sense well before the required course, and students who see them early tend to find it easier.
Ask the school. The course is brand new for 2026 to 2027 and each school decides whether to offer it. I tutor the subject either way, including students studying for the exam on their own.
No. I work from the teacher's materials and never complete graded work, so sessions support the class instead of replacing it.
Tutoring on concepts and practice problems is generally fine, but policies on graded work vary by course. I don't complete graded assignments. Check your syllabus's collaboration policy, and if you're unsure, ask your professor.
Tell me your course and what isn’t clicking. I’ll tell you honestly whether I can help.
