Financial literacy, junior or senior year
Budgeting, credit, taxes, insurance and investing, taught right as students apply to college and start working. We work from your student's course.
Georgia requires a half-credit financial literacy course in eleventh or twelfth grade for public high school graduation, in effect since the 2024 to 2025 school year. That puts it right next to college applications and first jobs, when it matters most. I tutor it, AP Business and college finance, one-on-one over Zoom.

How much rent a paycheck can carry, what a lease commits you to, and what happens to the rest of the budget. It's the practical end of the course.
College Board's newest AP course, with the first exam in May 2027. I tutor the subject whether or not your student's school offers the course yet.
Students home from Georgia, Georgia Tech, Emory or anywhere else often bring their hardest class with them. Break is the best time to fix it.
What a student studies in finance depends on the school and the state. Checked October 29, 2026.
Since 2024 to 2025, Georgia public high school students must complete at least a half-credit financial literacy course in eleventh or twelfth grade to graduate. It can count toward a math, social studies or elective credit. Private schools set their own requirements.
A few of the high schools families in the area attend, named for context only. Online Finance Tutor isn't affiliated with any of them. Your assigned school depends on your address and district.
A common guideline keeps rent at or below 30% of gross income. On a $4,500 monthly salary that's $1,350 a month. Take-home pay after taxes is lower, though, so the next question is whether $1,350 still leaves room for everything else. That second step is where students learn the most.
Rent rules are based on gross pay, but bills get paid with net pay. Students who mix them up overestimate what they can afford.
Federal and Georgia income tax, Social Security and Medicare. A real pay stub makes the lesson stick.
Snowball or avalanche? The math gives one answer and motivation sometimes gives another. We compare both with real numbers.
Parents usually book. Your student joins on Zoom after school or on a weekend, with no time lost in traffic. Send me the course, the school and what's giving your student trouble, and I'll tell you honestly whether I can help.
Send me what you're stuck on: a problem set, slides, your last midterm, a practice exam, last week's quiz.
You walk me through a problem out loud. It usually takes a few minutes to hear where the reasoning goes sideways. We fix that piece and rebuild from there, so you know why each step works.
The real test: a fresh problem with new numbers and different wording, the way a midterm would ask it, and you solve it yourself. I don't complete assignments or hand over answers. You leave able to do the work.

No. Every session is on Zoom, so there's no travel and scheduling fits around activities. We're on the same Eastern time zone.
SB 220 applies to public schools through local boards of education. Private and Catholic schools set their own courses, and I can help with those too.
Ask the school. The course is brand new for 2026 to 2027 and each school decides whether to offer it. I tutor the subject either way, including students studying for the exam on their own.
No. I work from the teacher's materials and never complete graded work, so sessions support the class instead of replacing it.
Tutoring on concepts and practice problems is generally fine, but policies on graded work vary by course. I don't complete graded assignments. Check your syllabus's collaboration policy, and if you're unsure, ask your professor.
Tell me your course and what isn’t clicking. I’ll tell you honestly whether I can help.
