Financial Mathematics
A semester course on savings, investments, loans, credit, budgeting and starting a business. It's math-heavy, and most of the trouble is in the setups, which is exactly what sessions fix.
Montgomery County doesn't require a separate finance credit to graduate. Personal finance is folded into required social studies, and a semester elective covers the math in more depth. How much real practice a student gets with loans, credit and investing depends on the electives they choose. I tutor all of it one-on-one on Zoom, along with AP Business and college finance.

If your student's schedule never had room for it, we cover budgeting, credit, taxes and investing in a few focused sessions before college or a first job.
College Board's newest AP course, with the first exam in May 2027. I tutor the subject whether or not your student's school offers the course yet.
Students home from College Park, Georgetown or anywhere else often bring their hardest class with them. Break is the best time to fix it before the next exam.
What a student studies in finance depends on the school and the state. Checked October 29, 2026.
Maryland leaves the finance graduation rule to each county. MCPS's requirements for the class of 2029 list no stand-alone finance credit; financial literacy is taught inside the required social studies courses. A 2026 state bill would add a statewide course from the class of 2030. It had not passed when this page was checked, and the MCPS board opposed it.
A few of the high schools families in the area attend, named for context only. Online Finance Tutor isn't affiliated with any of them. Your assigned MCPS school depends on your address.
Borrow $20,000 at 6% and repay it over 10 years, and the payment is $222.04 a month. Over the full term that's $6,644.92 in interest, on top of the $20,000. Working through that one example usually changes how a senior looks at college costs.
Student loans are the first big financial decision most students make, and they make it before anyone has shown them how interest adds up over ten years.
Present value, future value and annuities show up in Financial Mathematics, AP Business and every college finance class. Once it clicks, the rest follows.
Stocks, bonds, index funds and fees. Students hear the words everywhere and rarely get the math behind them.
Parents usually book. Your student joins on Zoom after school or on a weekend, between sports and everything else. Send me the course, the school and what's giving your student trouble, and I'll tell you honestly whether I can help.
Send me what you're stuck on: a problem set, slides, your last midterm, a practice exam, last week's quiz.
You walk me through a problem out loud. It usually takes a few minutes to hear where the reasoning goes sideways. We fix that piece and rebuild from there, so you know why each step works.
The real test: a fresh problem with new numbers and different wording, the way a midterm would ask it, and you solve it yourself. I don't complete assignments or hand over answers. You leave able to do the work.

I’m Chi Odogwu. No. Every session is on Zoom, so there's no travel and scheduling fits around practice and activities. We're on the same Eastern time zone.
For the basics, usually yes. Budgeting, credit, loans and investing can be covered in a handful of sessions, built around whatever is coming up next for your student: a first job, a car or college.
Ask the school. The course is brand new for 2026 to 2027 and each school decides whether to offer it. I tutor the subject either way, including students studying for the exam on their own.
No. I work from the teacher's materials and never complete graded work, so sessions support the class instead of replacing it.
Tutoring on concepts and practice problems is generally fine, but policies on graded work vary by course. I don't complete graded assignments. Check your syllabus's collaboration policy, and if you're unsure, ask your professor.
Tell me your course and what isn’t clicking. I’ll tell you honestly whether I can help.
