Where students get stuck.

Corporate finance and investments in one

The course covers both sides: how firms decide, and how investors price. Switching between the two views is where students lose points, so we practice both on one problem.

Portfolio theory

Portfolio theory is the most abstract topic on the list. We build a two-asset portfolio by hand so the idea has numbers behind it.

International finance

The last topic is easy to underprepare. We cover the core ideas so a single exam question doesn't surprise you.

Who takes FINA 3000

FINA 3000 is the Terry College Financial Management course, and FINA 3001 is the non-Terry version. I didn't check your degree plan, so confirm with your advisor which applies.

How a session works

Diagnosis first. Then the fix.

  1. 01

    Before we meet

Send me what you're stuck on: a problem set, slides, your last midterm, a practice exam, last week's quiz.

  2. 02

    On Zoom

You walk me through a problem out loud. It usually takes a few minutes to hear where the reasoning goes sideways. We fix that piece and rebuild from there, so you know why each step works.

  3. 03

    Before we finish

The real test: a fresh problem with new numbers and different wording, the way a midterm would ask it, and you solve it yourself. I don't complete assignments or hand over answers. You leave able to do the work.

ACCT 2101 and MIST 2090, plus MGMT 3000 and MARK 3000 as pre- or corequisites, per the catalog.

Is tutoring allowed under my school's honor code?

Tutoring on concepts and practice problems is generally fine, but policies on graded work vary by course. I don't complete graded assignments. Check your syllabus's collaboration policy, and if you're unsure, ask your professor.
