Personal financial literacy and money management
Banking, budgeting, credit, taxes, insurance, investing and retirement. We work from the course your student is actually taking.
Florida public high school students who entered ninth grade in 2023 to 2024 or later need a half credit in personal financial literacy and money management to graduate, so this year's seniors are the first class it applies to. I tutor that course, AP Business and college finance, one-on-one over Zoom.

Why a 1% fee costs far more than it sounds. Investing is the part of the course with the most math, and the part students use for the rest of their lives.
College Board's newest AP course, with the first exam in May 2027. I tutor the subject whether or not your student's school offers the course yet.
Students home from UM, UF, FSU or anywhere else often bring their hardest class with them. Break is the best time to fix it.
What a student studies in finance depends on the school and the state. Checked October 29, 2026.
Florida requires a half credit in personal financial literacy and money management for public high school students who entered ninth grade in 2023 to 2024 or later. Private schools set their own requirements.
A few of the high schools families in the area attend, named for context only. Online Finance Tutor isn't affiliated with any of them. Your assigned M-DCPS school depends on your address.
Invest $10,000 for 30 years at a 7% return. With a 1% annual fee it grows to about $57,435. With a 0.1% fee it grows to about $74,017. The fee that looked tiny costs more than $16,000, which is why the investing unit spends so much time on cost.
A fee is charged on the whole balance every year, so it compounds just like returns do. Students rarely see that until they run the numbers.
401(k), IRA, Roth. The names blur together, and the course expects students to know when each one makes sense.
Deductibles, premiums and coverage limits make little sense until you run a real scenario. We make the terms concrete.
Parents usually book. Your student joins on Zoom after school or on a weekend, with no drive on US-1. Send me the course, the school and what's giving your student trouble, and I'll tell you honestly whether I can help.
Send me what you're stuck on: a problem set, slides, your last midterm, a practice exam, last week's quiz.
You walk me through a problem out loud. It usually takes a few minutes to hear where the reasoning goes sideways. We fix that piece and rebuild from there, so you know why each step works.
The real test: a fresh problem with new numbers and different wording, the way a midterm would ask it, and you solve it yourself. I don't complete assignments or hand over answers. You leave able to do the work.

No. Every session is on Zoom, so there's no travel and scheduling fits around activities. We're on the same Eastern time zone.
It covers public high school graduation. Private schools set their own courses, and I can help with those too.
Ask the school. The course is brand new for 2026 to 2027 and each school decides whether to offer it. I tutor the subject either way, including students studying for the exam on their own.
No. I work from the teacher's materials and never complete graded work, so sessions support the class instead of replacing it.
Tutoring on concepts and practice problems is generally fine, but policies on graded work vary by course. I don't complete graded assignments. Check your syllabus's collaboration policy, and if you're unsure, ask your professor.
Tell me your course and what isn’t clicking. I’ll tell you honestly whether I can help.
