Personal financial management
Budgeting, banking, credit, loans, taxes and investing. Each district writes its own course, so we start from the one your student is in.
Connecticut public high school students need a half credit in personal financial management to graduate, starting with the class of 2027. Westport, Weston and Wilton each write their own version, so the same topic can look different in three towns ten minutes apart. I tutor it, AP Business and college finance, one-on-one over Zoom.

For a lot of students the first real loan is a car. We work out what a payment, a rate and a term actually cost before anyone signs.
College Board's newest AP course, with the first exam in May 2027. I tutor the subject whether or not your student's school offers the course yet.
Students home from Yale, UConn, Fairfield or anywhere else often bring their hardest class with them. Break is the best time to fix it.
What a student studies in finance depends on the school and the state. Checked October 29, 2026.
Connecticut requires a half-credit personal financial management and financial literacy course for public high school graduation, beginning with the class of 2027. Each district designs its own course. Private and Catholic schools set their own requirements.

A $25,000 car loan at 7% over 60 months comes to $495.03 a month. Across five years that's $4,701.80 in interest. Stretching the same loan longer lowers the payment and raises the total, which is the trade-off the personal finance course wants students to see.
A low monthly payment can hide a lot of interest. Students learn to look at the total cost, not just the number on the sticker.
Deductibles, premiums and coverage limits are in most personal finance courses and make little sense until you run a real scenario.
What helps, what hurts and how long it lasts. We separate the facts from what students hear online.
Parents usually book. Your student joins on Zoom after school or on a weekend. Send me the course, the school and what's giving your student trouble, and I'll tell you honestly whether I can help.
Send me what you're stuck on: a problem set, slides, your last midterm, a practice exam, last week's quiz.
You walk me through a problem out loud. It usually takes a few minutes to hear where the reasoning goes sideways. We fix that piece and rebuild from there, so you know why each step works.
The real test: a fresh problem with new numbers and different wording, the way a midterm would ask it, and you solve it yourself. I don't complete assignments or hand over answers. You leave able to do the work.

No. Every session is on Zoom, so there's no travel and scheduling fits around activities. We're on the same Eastern time zone.
It covers public high schools. Private and Catholic schools set their own courses, and I can help with those too.
Ask the school. The course is brand new for 2026 to 2027 and each school decides whether to offer it. I tutor the subject either way, including students studying for the exam on their own.
No. I work from the teacher's materials and never complete graded work, so sessions support the class instead of replacing it.
Tutoring on concepts and practice problems is generally fine, but policies on graded work vary by course. I don't complete graded assignments. Check your syllabus's collaboration policy, and if you're unsure, ask your professor.
Tell me your course and what isn’t clicking. I’ll tell you honestly whether I can help.
